Now that I have a definitive way of creating the soundscape for the film and have established that the solidified script will develop alongside the interviews, I feel it is time to further refine and focus this project. The project’s main research question asks how the fourth industrial revolution (digital, physical and biological) will impact identity and communication through phygical experiences, now I want to create a question framework for myself in hopes of focusing and beginning to construct my essay.
- What is identity? – I recently asked myself this question in a previous post and established that, it is the various elements which create ones sense of self. This definition will be used to construct some questions for my semi-structured interviews to explore how participants construct their identity / sense of self online and offline.
- What is the ‘lived experience’? – The synergy between virtual and material space and the way in which online spaces are being occupied and infinitely connected. What specific Phygical experiences? For this specific project, I am asking how can physical sensations be replicated and experienced digitally? So the phygical experiences I am referencing are these physical sensations which are triggered by virtual actions. I am researching Affect Theory for my film and have also looked at the physicality of nostalgia for the plot and visuals. This is also being investigated through my recent collaboration with Playtronica (speculations surrounding human senses (touch, emotion, communication)
I think I now need to narrow my project down even more, i’m definitely going to focus specifically on visual social media channels (Instagram, Tiktok etc) which are a representation of evolving new media practices (video, live, filters) and gamification techniques.
