Fecal Matter – Ethnography – Alien Beauty.

Although I have been keeping my ethnography observations in a single post, I wanted to highlight a particular observation – Alien beauty. This reminded me so much of Instagram face and aligned with my research question “How is the Fourth Industrial Revolution impacting Identity construction through the concept of ‘beauty’ and phygical experiences?”

In light of examining Instagram face, I also noted this trend which had similar visual tendencies – one which fecal matter, salvija and other extreme beauty influencers present themselves with.

“It’s obviously growing on Instagram right now,” agrees Dr. Ruth Adams, Senior Lecturer in Cultural and Creative Industries at King’s College London. “And it’s clearly a backlash against normative beauty standards, although the amount of labor involved is obviously no less.”

But is it a backlash or just a more extreme version of Instagram face? Could it be compared to people who overly glam themselves up in a punk style – this is like overly going with the alien cyborg look?
