I’m interested in the aesthetics of Renaissance paintings and how women are presented, this is something I definitely want to carry through my practical outcome.
The renaissance period was a time between the 14th and 16th century, a time of rebirth, expansion of religious interpretations, scientific discovery and exploration on new lands. Placing high value on knowledge and personal responsibility and Italy’s merging of science and mathematics with art, let to the discovery of perspective in depicted architecture, which allowed new space to be configured in the paintings and was rather like 3D movies when they were first released this century.
- Artists are looking to create an allusion of reality on a two dimensional surface. One point linear perspective was developed in order to create the allusion of reality on a two dimensional surface. We are now able to do that with ease due to digital and other technological tools, however the question of ‘reality’ is still relevant and it is interesting to utilise the idea of communicating the ‘real’ in terms of our own perception and what constitutes as real for us. We are no longer dictated our reality, and virtual realms have offered us the freedom to explore and perceive our existence with increasing freedom.
This will be referenced when I am framing my film.
