Lizzie’s Interview in the bath.

As I mentioned, I wanted to take on a more ethnographic form of research so I conducted a mini informal interview with a girl I know whilst she was in the bath. I realise that me being present alters her typical bathing experience drastically but I also think it was interesting for her to feel the physical aspect of bathing as we chatted.

‘Water is such an everyday thing… obviously, but it’s taken for granted. It’s only when you actually stop and think about it that you realise how important it is. It’s symbolic of life, cleansing, purity.’

‘I was baptised in water…but i don’t believe in any of that now.’

‘I drink loads of water, wait does tea count? I drink loads of tea. How british of me.’

‘In terms of bathing, I use baths as a form of comfort, I’d never really thought about it before but it’s my way of mindfulness.’
